mos def has dropped the album of the year thus far

Now I know that his cd doesn’t actually drop until August, but the leak came out this week. I suggest you buy it when it comes out to support one of the best artists around. He is a lyrical genius and it really comes out in The Ecstatic. You can see parts of Mos Def’s influences throughout the album from Malcolm X, the Arabian culture, and even including a song where he is rapping in Spanish.

Below you can find a link to listen to “The Auditorium” which happens to be one of my favorite tracks on the new album. Slick Rick jumps on the beat as well and for a second, you forget that you are in 2009 where the likes of Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane are clouding hip hop minds.

Wale – Family Affair (Video)

As promised by Wale, he delivered us the video for “Family Affair” today. The song, which will be featured on his Back to the Feature mixtape if it ever actually drops, shows the side of Wale that isn’t seen in Chillin’. As usual, Rik Cordero brings us another amazing visual for a song. The dude can direct music videos

mos def x talib kweli x j dilla – history

This must be one of those days. Music dropping left and right. Next Tuesday August 24th (why does he do this to us? Unfortunately for him, it just leaked) brings us the most anticipated album of the year for me, Mos Def’s The Ecstatic.  Casa Bey is already a classic and this song is well on its way. Seeing him perform some new songs this February at Highline Ballroom really proves this point further. With Mos, Lupe, Wale, and Cudi all dropping albums this summer, it could be a memorable one. I just wish I had went to the Black Star performance at Nokia Theatre this past weekend when i was back in the city. Also, be sure to listen to Jay $tay Paid, the posthumous album released by Pete Rock featuring J Dilla tracks.

wale – chillin (video)

It’s finally here. Lots of shots of Ben’s Chili Bowl in DC and other spots. Not my favorite Wale song but he’s definitely trying to bring in the mainstream to catch the rest of his album.

wale – family affair

As promised on Twitter, Wale delivered us a new song from the Back to the Feature mixtape that seems to be nearing its completion. The song is definitely dope. For those who know Wale just from “Chillin,” you will be surprised. I expect to hear more of this type of Wale on Attention Deficit.

I believe the video for this song shot by amazing director Rik Cordero comes out tomorrow.

Charles Barkley deserves his own show

One truly saddening side effect of the NBA Finals just starting is that Sir McCharles Burger will no longer be a part of the NBA coverage as TNT is no longer showing any games.  We will have to wait another few months to see him grace our presence. He made us laugh some more the other night both at half time and in the post game. Let’s have a listen.

Now, that is funny. Not only did he call Kenny Smith numnuts (who uses that anyways), he also called his producer a pussy. I wonder what the back story is behind that. Reggie Miller is just as appalled as he used to be when someone laid a finger on him back on his playing days. He should probably stop whining or we might put him in the category usually only reserved to Sidney Crosby.

Follow the jump for more great Charles Barkley moments.

J.Cole – Simba (video)

I posted a dead presidents rap from J.cole a couple weeks ago after he just signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation (who Wale is now also being advised by). This video was released off J.Cole’s blog, DreamVillain. Really love this song.
